Privacy Policy — Claude Usage Overlay

Last updated: 5 June 2026 Publisher: actuario Contact: sanchezrivera+claude-overlay@gmail.com

This document describes how the “Claude Usage Overlay” browser extension (hereafter, “the Extension”) handles information.

TL;DR

The Extension does not collect, transmit, store on remote servers, or share with any third party any user data. All data the Extension handles stays on the user’s own device, in the browser’s local extension storage.

Data the Extension reads

While the user is logged in to https://claude.ai, the Extension issues authenticated HTTP requests, using the user’s existing browser session, to the following endpoints on Anthropic’s own claude.ai domain:

These requests are issued only from the user’s browser, only when a claude.ai tab is open and visible, at most once every 45 seconds.

The responses contain:

No other fields are read, parsed, or stored.

Data the Extension stores

The Extension uses chrome.storage.local (the browser’s local extension storage, scoped to the user’s browser profile) to persist:

  1. The most recent usage snapshot (percentages + reset timestamps + fetch time), so the UI can render values immediately when the user reopens claude.ai.
  2. The Anthropic organization UUID, cached to avoid refetching it on every poll.
  3. The user’s preferred screen position for the floating-overlay fallback (x, y coordinates in pixels), only when applicable.

This data never leaves the user’s device. The Extension does not synchronize it across devices, does not back it up to any server, and does not transmit it to the developer or to any third party.

The user can clear all of this data at any time by removing the Extension, or by running the following in the browser console while on claude.ai:

chrome.storage.local.clear()

Data the Extension does NOT collect

The Extension does not collect, track, or transmit:

Third parties

The Extension does not communicate with any party other than Anthropic’s own claude.ai servers, and only on behalf of the already-logged-in user. The developer of the Extension has no servers, no backend, and no analytics provider.

Permissions and their use

Permission Use
storage Persist the three items listed above in local browser storage
https://claude.ai/* Inject the UI on claude.ai pages and read usage data from that host

Children

The Extension does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children. As stated above, the Extension does not collect data at all.
